IECEP-KSA CRC Conducts VoIP and Web Conferencing Seminars
Engr. Modesto Gibas
Governor, IECEP – KSA CRC

Around 40 electronics engineers (ECEs) and practitioners gathered last February 24, 2013 as the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Central Region Chapter (IECEP – KSA CRC) held its 2nd technical seminar on “Introduction to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Web Conferencing” at the Elite International School AVR in Riyadh, KSA.

The seminar formally started with the welcome remarks delivered by Engr. Perry Camson, Vice Governor for Internal Affairs. Engr. Jandee Bonifacio then presented some facts about Republic Act (RA) 9292 (Electronics Engineering Law of 2004), and challenged each participants with professional license registered under RA 5734 (Electronics and Communications Engineering Act of the Philippines) to convert it to a new one under RA 9292.

Subsequently, Engr. Jonathan Tiston gave an overview on how electronics engineers (ECEs) and technicians (ECTs) aspiring to improve on their career can be CISCO-certified associates. As the telecom industry requires, CISCO Certification is a must-have as most of the telecom companies in the Philippines and abroad hire CISCO-certified associates and professionals.

Current IECEP – KSA CRC Governor and Philippine Professional Organization (PPO) Chairman Engr. Modesto Gibas then spearheaded the technical seminar in order to give the ECEs new information and updates on the latest trends in telephony. Gibas introduced VoIP technology to the audience using actual hardware and software, as well as how web conferencing can be utilized and taken advantage of by organizations and industries in holding online meetings, trainings and webminars. As far as the latest technologies are concerned, the VoIP and IP technologies are quickly evolving in the telecom industry and are being deployed in the Middle East. Most of the companies in the Gulf Region are shifting their corporate conventional telephone system to IP telephony as this has many features and is easy to implement with their existing computer or IP networks. It has also many added services as the technology is a merger of voice, video and data technologies.
